Writers Do Laundry Too + work

The Submission Guidelines
Chrysanthemum

Deadline: 5 June 2013

Memoir Journal is now accepting submissions for a special issue devoted to the topic of guns. We are seeking essays addressing any aspect of guns. We believe that this complicated subject, currently the focus of national dialogue, is worthy of discussion and exploration in a literary magazine. We welcome submissions in English from writers living anywhere in the world.

SUBMISSIONS:

Through its twice yearly publication, Memoir, Memoir Journal publishes the best works of personal prose, poetry and narrative-driven imagery chosen from new and emerging memoirists like you, from around the world. By inviting your submission and ultimately becoming a Memoir subscriber, you join us in building a collective sense of community through the art of storytelling and evaluating the art and craft of memoir.

SUBMITTING A WORK IS EASY AND FREE:

Our editorial board and volunteer readers carefully read each submission and select first, second and third prize winners for prose, and one winner each for photography and graphic memoir. Each winner’s work will be featured in full in Memoir and the Memoir Journal website, and three complimentary issues of Memoir are included.

May I submit my work to you anytime? Memoir offers two submission periods each year.

What is the submission process?

  • First, thoroughly read the Submission Guidelines (.pdf).
  • Online submissions are done through our Submission Manager.
  • We do not accept emailed submissions.
  • Hard copy submissions can be mailed to: 1316 67th Street, #8, Emeryville, CA 94608. (Include a SASE or email address to learn the status of your hard-copy submission).
Is there an entry fee? Entry is free.

Must I be a memoir subscriber to submit a work? No. But being a subscriber can help you refine your own craft by reading the selected submissions of others. Click here to subscribe today.
